Education Project- 2018-2019
Tara Learning Center in Agra
In People Tree, Japan
We are thankful to People Tree, Japan for continuity of the support given to Tara Education project. We are happy that with the support provided both the organizations are able to support more than 150 children since last three years. This year education support is given to the economically deprived children from Agra learning center. Tara has been running Agra center since last one decade. The learning center has supported children belonging to the marginalized sections of society in all these years. Most of the children supported, belong to the soapstone craft making community. The education facility provided to the children is free of cost.
Necessary material like stationery, school bags, lunch boxes and water bottles are distributed to the children, encouraging them to take interest in learning and attending education sessions on regular basis. The project also includes organizing awareness sessions and organizing outdoor visits for the children to enhance their knowledge and make them more aware. The parents are also encouraged to get involved as key stakeholders. They are motivated to allow their children, specially the girls to attend the school and the learning center on regular basis.
We are thankful to People Tree to be partner in this project and provide the necessary financial and moral support to run Tara learning center, Agra in the year 2018-19. At present more than 100 children are benefitting from the education project.
In mid 2018, a study was conducted to collect the information about the children; those who are still not attending the school and are still involved working as child laborers in the locality. We studied the lives of 100 families. It was shocking and surprising that out of 310 children/adolescents 80 children were not going to school. Poverty and lack of awareness are the main reasons identified. Therefore, Tara decided to help these children to motivate them and their families to get enrolled in the local schools and receive remedial education in Tara learning center.
We are satisfied to realize the fact that the ongoing education project has an impact on the lives of children. It has helped them to take interest in education and continue their schooling. During the year, several awareness sessions were organized on the subjects like child rights, human values, life skills, environment protection, health and hygiene during the year.
The teachers were also supported by imparting training to improve their knowledge and teach children more effectively. Parents and teacher were also brought together to discuss about the importance of education and how to cope with the challenges faced by them. The actions taken have helped to develop confidence amongst the children, their parents and also raised awareness about the importance of education.
Tara Projects is thankful to our Fair Trade partner People Tree – Japan for their support provided for the education project in the year 2018-19. The project implemented has resulted in positive impact on the lives of the children in Agra community. Many children are now able to continue their education and attending the school. However, it is a slow process. We have to continue to work in this direction. There are still many children, who need support to come out of their homes and receive education, to make their future bright and meaningful.
